I want to write in English because of my study.

In this time, good swing because of hitting so hard. And sound of contact is good. Moreover, SUBURI is so good too.



This swing has bottom-hand-pull and it is mainly due to the position of grip. In the batting stance, grip position is too far from axis of body.

To speak of extremes, having image like following photograph will reduce the bottom-hand-pull. (overstated image)

And in this swing, bat position (at the finish) is low because of rolling over the wrist too much. And bottom-hand-pull is the cause of that rolling motion.


So, if bottom hand pull is reduced, wrist's rolling motion is also reduced. And  as a result, bat will be thrown up to higher position like this photo.

And regarding this theme, I encourage you to do the "squat-down-swing" Because in the squat-down-swing, you can feel a sense of oneness throughout whole body. 


And positioning a grip near the axis of body, you can feel the center of gravity. This feeling pertain to the sense of oneness.


 It is same as this.
Many people of world keep up concentration by this.

"feeling of oneness" and "feeling of center" ...   These feeling and sense are lacking in your swing.  

And for improving this problem, there are two important points that I wrote above sentence.

let me write those again...

1)grip position
2) doing the squat down swing drill

This is a comparing with Kitarou's grip position. We can understand that your grip position is too far from axis line.

※)If your knee aches in the squat down swing, You may just do the squat down stretch before the swing. And take the slightly lower  batting stance than usual batting stance.

Anyhow, if you can get those feeling, you will be able to swing more explosively and quickly from quiet state.

Swinging more explosively and quickly from quiet batting stance (with sense of center and oneness) is an important theme for you. Squat-down-swing drill and improving the grip position will give you those senses.

Mr. Alain. I think you need to keep a good image of swing. In a sense, my theory is second, image is first. Please adopt my theory as a kind of spice with keeping your good image as a staple food. Because you have gotten somewhat complete mechanics already. And following clips will remind you that good image.


Having said that, from seeing this SUBURI, you seem to improve your hitting mechanics gradually. Your swing becomes stable but as for the recoil action, it becomes weak a little bit as compared with previous swing.


However, that progress is one of a typical reaction of after taking away the "moving back motion" from hitting mechanics having the moving back motion.

Probably, that phenomenon is due to losing your old type engine. And that old type engine is needless engine in original mechanics. But now, you have got a correct engine by throw that old type engine away. However this new correct engine is weak as yet. This  correct engine is, so to speak, a rusted engine because of being not used for a long time. So it will become a strong engine if you polish it. 

Above description explains present stage that you are standing now. Namely, it means half way to getting a perfect hitting mechanics.

And now, this video already shows somewhat complete swing at this time. So this quality can be regarded as your standard quality. 


Anyway and first of all, you need to keep the quality of your swing  around this level. And if you can just only do it, your swing will become high level enough.

On the premise of you can do it, there is one thing that is lacking on your swing. And that is explained in following photos.


In short, that is the power of hip joint extension by hamstrings. Jose Bautista and Prince Fielder have it so much.








To put it briefly,

Well, let's think about the future outlook for you as a baseball player.

positive factors

1)Having inside out swing and quickness (as for swing) for large player.

2) Having big power of hip joint extension more than general Japanese players.

3) Knowing and practicing my theory. ( You will follow the same progress of advance as Yamashita and Hayashi )

4) Having experience of real game in french baseball league.

For the above factors, I think you have possibility of becoming a professional (including independent league) baseball player if you can keep up with high level pitchers. 

And the biggest uneasiness factor that I regard as is the red later of above sentence. Because about that theme, I can't have a hand in it , though can suggest some ideas of drill.

Anyhow, I have not told all of my theory yet. And it will take two or three days. So if you come to LABO, I am willing to tell those my theory after composing it into some practice programs. That would help you to remind a theoretical points.

So if you finish that programs at LABO, you can operate your company successfully between half year to a year by installing that software.

I am gradually coming to understand your hitting mechanics. So in this time, I feel like being able to write good article for giving you nice advice, may be.

First of all, at the present state of your hitting mechanics, compact, tight and strong swing without opening front leg can be said as your best swing.(I don't mean you should aim for getting the compact swing.)

In this movie, swing from 0.25 can comparatively be said as above mentioned good state.

By the way, primary problems of your hitting mechanics (move back action, open of front leg) has not been solved yet. So I will write about way of solution for these problems.

1) side-to-side swaying motion (swaying motion = 揺らぎ)

Major cause of move back action is in the process from swaying motion to start-of-hitting-mechanics. Following sequence photographs explains about it. Firstly, in the swaying motion, your weight is swaying side to side repeatedly like a metronome. Secondly, at just before the start (7 of photo), your weight load on front leg. Finally, hitting mechanics start up right after the loading on front leg. And as a result, your body comes to move back by rebound of swaying motion. Put simply, that is the cause of moving back action.

However, strictly speaking, you do not always start the hitting mechanics right after loading on front leg. Some times you start the hitting mechanics in correct rhythm. So above explain is nothing but just a conceptual thinking. Briefly speaking, your muscles and your motor nerves may be having the memory of that sort of rhythm as a result of past practice. So, for improving this problem, two step process will be needed.

step1 As a chrysalis stage, get the sense of start from stationary state.

step2 Imprint the new rhythm, new weight distribution and new loading position.

Weight should be flowed along by the front diagonal line and the "twist" makes easy to incarnate this weight flow.

And of course, twist is accompanied by back leg's hip-joint-open. This hip joint open activate the hamstrings and gluteus maximus muscle. As a result, back leg comes to be able to grasp the ground without loading so much.

As  a point of notice, weight (flowed along by front diagonal line) should not be loaded on ball of thumb strongly. It should be loaded on out edge mainly,

So now, I suggest a new drill for getting above mentioned batting stance. First of all, this drill mainly use a batting tee and hit a ball with tall and narrow batting stance accompanied by the emphasized twist. (like a following photograph)
And in regard to the "tall and narrow batting stance accompanied by the emphasized twist", Yulieski Gourriel's batting stance is close to my meaning.


This drill means repeating four swings which has different concept each other.

swing1) This means swinging with getting a sense of grasping the ground by back leg. Of course, back leg's hip-joint-open which is caused by the twist is important in this swing. In the batting stance, you can feel standing with your back leg mainly.

swing2) This means swinging with getting a sense of weight flow which is going down along by the front diagonal line. And this diagonal line come to be felt clearly by twisting largely. in this batting stance, you should not load the weight on front leg's ball of thumb.

swing3) This means swinging with getting above two senses at the same time. And in this swing, taking a balance of sense1 and sense2 is a main theme.

swing4) This swing is performed as a SUBURI with low and wide batting stance (means usual batting stance of automatic step). And this swing means adjusting above senses into the usual batting stance.

2) about the rhythm

If you can get the sense of above batting stance, you will be able to keep a static state more easily while waiting for a pitch.

In the case of you, time of static is somewhat short.

3) process of making a batting stance



In your case, from(1) to (2), both hip joints open equally, and next, from (2) to (3), you twist upper body.

On the other hand, in Jose Reyes Jr's (blue shirt kid) case, from (1) to (2), he makes a twist slightly at this phase.

Jose Reyes Jr is Right.

As explained in following photo of exercise, squat down and twist  are formed simultaneously.

And a "motion of folding the body at hip joint after warping the body" ( in short, (1)~(2)) is a part of squat down phase. following illustration is explaining it. So, in this phase, forming the twist should be begun already.


For your information, this illustration means the correct process of making the batting stance. That is, from (1) to (2), stance is going down by folding motion of hip joint (after a warping motion), and from (2) to (3), stance is going down by swaying motion.

Then, in your case, in regard to this process, it's awesome. But timing of making the twist is too late. That twist should be formed in the phase from (1) to (3) gradually.

1)impressions

This is a good swing because so dynamic. I like that.
 In "suburi", swinging dynamically as these swings is important for your case. Because it will improve muscle flexibility and strength. 
And it is just the aim of swinging in large numbers.

It goes without saying that this dynamic impression comes from the "twist" on your batting stance. In a word, that twist brings right leg's hip-joint-open and right arm's flying elbow. In more detail, hip-joint-open means having the power of hip joint's inward rotation and hip-joint-extension and flying elbow means stretching the diagonal line.

2)two energy sources

The automatic-step-mechanics have two energy sources : one is "twist" and the other is "squat-down".


For example, Yoliesky Gourriel and Curtis Granderson use the twist mainly as the energy source. On the other hand, Jeff Bagwell and Jose Canseco use the squat-down mainly as the energy source.

Now, you have gotten the energy source of "twist" into your hitting mechanics already. So, as the next step, you should get the energy source of squat down. 

Then let me introduce you two training ways for getting the energy source of squat down.

1) Stretch the iliopsoas muscle or do the whip-step before this swing.

2) Use a bat shortly like above photo.
3) Use the stamping motion with both heels when you squat down.

b) squat down training and SUBURI with usual batting stance

This drill means repeating the squat down training and  SUBURI (with usual batting stance) alternately. And each training should be performed in few times (3 or 4). In regard to the squat down training, iliopsoas muscle should be stretched before the squat down.

1)Keep your chin down.
2)Stick forward your pelvis when you stand up.
3)  Stretch your iliopsoas muscle before this training.

By the way, let me explain the reason of using the usual batting stance in this drill. As a result of using the lower body muscles in the squat training, these muscles will go into active state. So even in the usual batting stance, hamstrings and iliopsoas will act enough. However, in that SUBURI, you might want to take the squat down a little bit more than your usual batting stance that is used in the game.

Incidentally, the energy source of squat down is connected directly with lower body's unconscious muscle contraction at the moment of start.

And that lower body's muscle contraction is very important for producing big power by using the automatic step hitting mechanics. Because of being able to use that lower body's muscle contraction, the automatic step mechanics can produce the big power without any counter motion like back-swing or backward-weight-shift.

That's the reason of importance of the energy source of squat down. And that's the reason of why Moises Alou could hit 39 home runs with this hitting mechanics like no-motion punch.


3)scapulas' position 

At present, your back makes a flat line compared with Hayashi's it.

This difference comes from the scapulas' position. Your scapulas are not abducted enough. So, your thoracic spine can't make backward arch enough. And as a result, your pelvis can't tilt forward enough. This is a big point of improvement for you.

Making a space in front of chest and making a twist like this illustration are tips of making this batting stance (having good thoracic spine kyphosis).

And there is one more tips for making this batting stance. I expressed it in following illustration. In a word, stretching the iliopsoas muscle before making the batting stance and making a space in front of the chest are the tips for getting that batting stance.

When making the space in front of your chest, you should not put a bat in front of your face. Your bat's barrel should run behind your head. I expressed that in following photos.



Incidentally, I called a batting stance with running a bat in front of face as the "front-barrel-type". And I called a batting stance with running a bat behind the head  as the "launch-position-type".

In short, front-barrel-type batting stance can not adapt to  automatic step hitting mechanics.

前回よりは、良くなっています。後ろに戻る動きも小さくなりました。

ひとつ、良い所は、トップでのバットの角度(かくど)と、そこからインパクトまでのスイングの軌道(きどう)と、腕の使い方が非常(ひじょう)に良い事です。これは、簡単(かんたん)そうですが、誰(だれ)もが出来る事ではありません。プロでも、もっと形の悪い人はいます。

アランさんの場合、若干(じゃっかん)、ボトムハンドの引きが強いですが、その点を除く(のぞく)と、トップからインパクトにかけてのスイングは既(すで)に完成されています。

なので、まず、アランさんくらいの体格で、このスイングが出来ると言うのは、それだけで大きな武器(ぶき)になることを自覚(じかく)して良いでしょう。後は、動きのキレを良くすることや、全体的なフォームを改善して行くことが大切になります。ただ、そのフォームの中心になる「スイングそのもの」が既に完成されているということは、教える方からしても、楽です。

1)始動時の後ろ戻りを無くすために、後ろ脚の力を使えるようにする

やはり、まだ、始動時の後ろ戻りが気になります。前回よりはよくなりましたが、まだ、後ろ戻りが目立ちます。原因は、構えで「後ろ脚の力を使うための形」が出来ていない事でしょう。もう少し、後ろ脚股関節を割って、後ろ脚の力を効かせて(きかせて)構える事が大切です。そして、そのためには、もう少し重心(じゅうしん)を低くして構えた方が良いです。

膝(ひざ)は、もちろん、曲げ過ぎるとダメですが、少し曲がっていた方が、股関節が割りやすくなります。なぜなら、膝が曲がると、膝の自動回旋(じどうかいせん)=automatic rotation of knee によって、膝の屈曲(くっきょく)と同時に下腿部(かたいぶ=lower leg)回内(かいない)するので、反対に、大腿部(だいたいぶ=femor)が外向きに回転するためです。この結果、より深く(ふかく)股関節を割る事が出来ます。そうすると、より強く後ろ脚の力が使えるので、始動時の後ろ戻りも、もっと解消(かいしょう)されるでしょう。

下の山下さんの動画には、捻って重心を低くした構えからのスイングが、いくつか、あります。こうした素振りや置きティー、ストレッチ等から、上記のような後ろ脚の使い方を憶えてください。動画にもありますが、連続素振り(れんぞくすぶり)も良い方法です。



2)weight distribution on soles


Basically, weight should be supported with three point of soles. In particular, heel and the little toe is important. And ball of the thumb should not be loaded strongly.

If you put your weight on the ball of your left foot strongly, It will cause your front leg to push the ground strongly. As a result, your whole body will move back at the moment of start.

3) too much loaded on front leg


This is the biggest cause of moving back motion at the moment of start.

4)quadriceps muscle (大腿四頭筋)

I feel strong effect of quadriceps muscle on your hitting mechanics ( at the starting action of both legs )

So you should take care about tension of quadriceps muscle at the batting stance, and should regard using hamstrings as important, especially when taking squat down.

5)opening of front leg

This motion makes your swing to have power loss.

And a primary cause of this motion is the moving back motion at the moment of start.

So it will be solved if you make a twist more largely at the batting stance. Because that twist causes making hip-joint-open on the back leg. I mean, hip-joint-open is important for generating the power of leg.

the "moving back motion"  This is the most troublesome factor on your hitting mechanics.

following video clip shows the correct motion of after the swing. I mean, the "recoil action" is important.

6)summary

1)Using the power of back leg more effectively. (more squat down and twist at batting stance)

2)Don't put your weight on front leg's thumb ball strongly.

3)Don't load your weight on front leg strongly.

4)Taking care about tension of quadriceps muscle when you take squat down.

5)Moving back motion is the cause of opening of front leg.

次回の動画投稿ついては、このブログに掲載されてから1週間とし、最終期限は、このブログに掲載されてから2週間とすることにします。

ですので、次回の動画投稿は9月2日(月)前後を目安とし、最終期限は9月9日の(月)ということでお願いします。




解らない漢字が有ったら読むのに時間がかかるので、一応、ふりがなを付ける事にします。

3本目のスイングは良い感じです。初めてフリー打撃を見て、前から飛んで来るボールに力を加える(くわえる)事が出来ている(その感覚が有る)のが解りました。また、見逃しかたが良いのが、感心(かんしん)しました。フリー打撃の動画を見ると、フランスのリーグでの実戦経験(じっせんけいけん)が有るということが、良く解り(わかり)ます。そのへんは、武器(ぶき)になっているといえるでしょう。なので、後は、フォームです。

この動画の3本目のような、コンパクトで鋭い(するどい)スイングが出来ていれば、大丈夫(だいじょうぶ)です。ただ、構え(かまえ)から始動(しどう)した時に、重心(じゅうしん)が後ろに戻って(もどって)います。

これは、もっと身体を捻る(ひねる)事で、後ろ脚(うしろあし)股関節(こかんせつ)を割ると、改善(かいぜん)されるでしょう。後ろ脚の力が強く(つよく)使えるので、後ろに戻りにくくなるわけです。下の写真くらいの感じで構えて(かまえて)ください。

つまり、もっと構えで力をタメておく必要(ひつよう)が有ると言う事です。そうすると、スイングが、もっと安定(あんてい)するでしょう。基本的(きほんてき)に、この打ち方の場合、楽に構えるとスイングが汚く(きたなく)なります。構えをある程度(ていど)、キメておいた方が、スイングが安定します。

また、構えで少し前脚に体重がかかり過ぎ(すぎ)ているのも、気になります。それによって、前脚の力が強く働き、重心が後ろに戻るのでしょう。


Mark Trumbo は2段ステップですが、アランさんにとっては良いお手本になると思います。こういうイメージで構えて、打ってください。
